The lighthouse here has guided ships since 1836, warning them away from the rocks where two continents' worth of weather meets the sea.
I photographed the lighthouse when humpback whales were surfacing just off the coast. You could see their spouts from the clifftop, and occasionally a tail or fin would break the surface. A reminder that this isn't just a scenic overlook but an active marine environment where life happens at scales both human and enormous.
The composition places the lighthouse between rock and sky, emphasizing its role as the last outpost before the open ocean. Being at the easternmost point carries a certain weight. Every sunrise in North America reaches here first. It's a place where geography becomes tangible.
