Gros Morne, Newfoundland and Labrador. This lighthouse is located just outside Rocky Harbour, and at sunset, it becomes one of the most photogenic spots in Gros Morne.
The lighthouse itself is modest — a white tower with red trim, functional rather than dramatic. But its position is perfect, perched on rocks with nothing but water and sky behind it. At sunset, it becomes a silhouette against the sky, a simple shape anchoring the light and colour.
I shot through the entire sunset, adjusting position as the light changed, trying to balance the bright sky against the darkening foreground. This frame captures the peak moment, when the colours were most intense and the lighthouse stood in sharp relief.
Rocky Harbour makes a good base for exploring Gros Morne, and Lobster Cove Head is an easy walk from town. If you're here at sunset, there's nowhere else you should be.
